Overview The company's first-ever formal lottery training — a single onboarding course that teaches new employees their role in lottery sales while routing them to the right state-specific rules and resources.

The Problem Despite operating locations in multiple states where lottery is legal, the company had never had formal lottery training. New employees were expected to handle lottery sales without a consistent, reliable way to learn the rules — and lottery law varies meaningfully from state to state.

Constraints The obvious fix — a separate course and materials for each state — was a maintenance trap: lottery laws change, and a library of state-specific courses would need updating every year, multiplying upkeep across every location. The training had to cover a legally sensitive topic accurately while staying sustainable long term.

My Role & Process I owned the course end to end. To get the content right, I collaborated with managers across many locations, the company's audit team, and subject matter experts on lottery law and operations. The pivotal decision was architectural: rather than duplicate content per state, I built one durable core course and paired it with state-specific SOPs, so the details most likely to change live in resources that are far easier to maintain than a full course.

The Solution A single onboarding course that teaches every new employee the fundamentals of their role in lottery sales, then points them to the resources relevant to their state — including the state-specific SOPs created alongside the course. New hires get consistent baseline training, while location-specific detail lives in maintainable documents.

Results The company went from no formal lottery training to a scalable, reusable program serving employees across multiple states without a separate course for each.
